PROBLEM STATEMENT
With the world adapting to post COVID-19, we all know the fitness community was negatively impacted by the virus. From gyms being shut down for long durations of time to a lot of people still not feeling confident to workout in large areas with crowds today. We asked ourselves, how might we create a safe and reliable gym-like environment from the comfort of your own space?

RESULT
From addressing the problem of working out without access to a local gym for several reasons including feeling uncertain about the cleanliness, saving money on a membership, or building up confidence and knowledge on what to do. START Fitness is an app based gym experience created so any level of fitness enthusiasts could exercise from the comfort of their own space.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Idea generation
• In-depth user research
• Wire framing
• Prototyping
• Pitching and presenting our app

USER RESEARCH
Researched the significant impacts of COVID-19 on the fitness industry, and conducted user inteviews with university students who were gym users to gather their opinions about workout challenges during and post pandemic. We also sent out a series of online surveys with university student gym users to complete online.

Our research revealed that students were frustrated with the closure of gyms and were feeling isolated and lonely due to the loss of contact with their workout community. This insight led us to design a solution for these obstacles.

USER JOURNEY AND PERSONA
We formed a persona around Harjot, a university student who was passionate about fitness and used to go to the gym with his friends everyday. Due to the pandemic and gym closures, Harjot was seeking a service that would make it easier to workout from home.

We focused on phases 2 - 4 where Harjot is researching, comparing, and engaging in these products. Narrowing down the focus to these phases, and looking at Harjot’s thoughts helped us map out the opportunities for potential features of the app.

START's features from our research:
• Provides functional at home workouts
• Incorporates specific target area workout sections
• Includes the ability to workout with friends virtually
• Maintains engagement with updated user progress data and metrics

DESIGN PROCESS
Low-fidelity wireframes helped us determine and organize the look of our product and its potential user flow.

VISUAL DESIGN & FEATURES
START Fitness's style guide features dark purple tones with a vibrant peachy colour to create an electric experience to help the user feel energized during the length of their workout. The use of cards and imagery in the UI is visually appealing, groups information, and helps the user digest the information effectively.
